Vancouver Sun Run Short Film Video by National Canadian Film Day Filmmaker

This is my first Vancouver Sun Run event as I have filmed 2016 BMO Vancouver Marathon Filming video and knew the Vancouver Sun Run has been around for 33rd annual race. Over 41,000 participants, including Olympic racewalkers, wheelchair racers, elite athletes, VIP guests, weekend warriors, seniors, newbies and Nordic walkers. This tradition event has grown to be one of the largest 10K race in North America. I wanted to create a story that hasn’t been told with a Telephoto lens close up to the runners expressions running toward me at Vancouver Downtown Georgia street 1km then right turn on Denman street where runners are at the mess on the Georgia street. As a Vancouver photographer & videographer filmmaker I have spending a lot of time learning the craft to become a better artist. One thing I do know is one must arrive early to get the best location for this outdoor event; getting up at 5:30am is not my daily choice then arriving at Denman street 2 hours before the race. While thinking best to set up, I asked the city crews if I can set up on the road and thank you for their help I was once again ready to film. Visual storytelling using my 80’s Pentax SMC 500mm Telephoto Photography lens to capture Vancouver Sun Run runners from 1km away has the best view in the house. The amazing view when thousands of runners pouring down the street like a herd of wildlife you see in PlanetEarth TV show, it is a life time experience. It is interesting some runners dressed up and one person wearing a wrestling mask ‘2336’ numbers popped up in the video. Do you know him? If you do send him this video and let me know too!

Using the Canon Professional Cinema EOS camera C300 MkII with Color Grading, I was able to create a visual short film for the Sun Run. I have added an IPhone video to show case how far away I was from the Start line Area at Burrard street. Due to this is a photography lens, it is tricky to get subjects to pull focus.
