As a family portrait studio photographer and wedding event videographer, I love to photo and video event whenever I can. I was asked to film the whole 2016 Christmas Skate in Killarney at the entrance of the Vancouver Killarney Community Ice Skate Arena since I brought in my gears to film my niece in 4KUHD. I don’t film my film in HD any more as 4KUHD has 4 times the resolutions for the future proof and TV Pilots are filming in 4K UHD which shows you the technology we are heading. Unfortunately it was my first time filming first Ice Skate on the ice instead on the stand. The experience has been fun and challenge since I was pulling focus and zooming in and out manually but the Canon C300 MKII Dual Pixel focus helped a lot. The lens I was using Sigma 50-100mm Art series as this is is part of the New Sigma Cinema line of lens as it worked well. Unfortunately my Sachtler FSB10 fluid head did not make it to the shoot as using my old Manfrotto head which is no where near the fluid of the Professional Sachtler. This is why you pay three digital numbers compare to four digital number for the Professional gears as it is worth every dollars. Since this is the last minutes filming there is no direct audio to my external recorder, the sounds does sound echo reminded me the wedding I filmed at downtown Vancouver Public library and thank god for the external clean audio off the Zoom H6.

Color Grading to Create Cinema Look

With the advance of Filmmaking technology, filmmaker has better control of post production of their final video product. The 4:2:2 10bits allows better color handling and pushing color while my A7S II 4:2:2 8 bits does break up when pushing hard. Here the footage with few touch up to bring the 4kuhd video to life while filming in Canon Clog2.
