Dark Secret Charcoal Drawings of Master Artists

Vancouver Wedding Photographer is Visual Artist

Dark secret reveals when study drawing of master artists from the past! By close study of drawing reveals how the artist painted with each brush strokes like drawing. This technique is taught by my Langara College Visual Arts Program painting and drawing instructor Liza Visagie. I have taken her painting classes for few years; she is full of passion, fun and a great instructor. This is my first attend with charcoal media and loving it.

For the last five years I have been study from other painting school but I found Langara College has some the best instructors for Visual Arts. I do suggest anyone who is starting out or an advance student give this program a try as it is a night class.

Drawing with charcoal is a challenge; especially it is my first time, I do notice papers play an important part of a good drawings. Liza Visagie suggests to use paper has less pattern, this uniform groove lines yield a mechanical looking background. This paper will give interesting look when subject moody but with fine details I had a hard time controlling my work. If you are looking for a good resource reference drawings from the master, check out Liza Visgie Pinterest as she updates often.

Looking at some of the master drawings make me feel like a little kid in a toy store, each artists has his or her unique style and so wonder to learn and study their work. So far the last few months, I have only worked on few of the portrait master artists like Nicolai Fechan (amazing details and hard work), Speed Harold (body curve so beautiful), Charles Bargue (learning how to draw using his technique), John Singer Sargent (Speechless), Kathe Kollwitz (Creative style), Vincent Van Gogh (details yet simple), Piere Bonnard (mood setting)

Liza’s Charcoal drawing class not just portrait study but also landscape study as I look forward to landscape as I have little knowledge and find it interesting. Check out Liza’s landscape work, I’m speechless! Liza Visagie gallery here, she also teaches private lesson and yes her works are for sale.
