Chapel at Stanley Park: Point of View by Wayne Lam

I attend lots of weddings at many venues as a wedding photographer and videographer. No two weddings are alike, so there should be a wedding venue to suit every brides plans. I give you a backstage pass to the venue with a review of how it will function once you and your guests arrive.

Location – Accessibility, Easy to Find

The Chapel at Stanley Park can be seen in both directions on West Georgia. If you are familiar with downtown, the Chapel is not hard to find. But if you are a guest and unfamiliar with the area, you will need to plan extra time to get there due to the street being busy in both directions. If using public transportation, you can take the city buses to reach the Chapel at Stanley Park. Wedding couples need to give themselves extra time if coming from the North Shore and crossing the Lion’s Gate Bridge. Be warned that the Lion’s Gate Bridge does close off when there are accidents, and the last thing you want on your wedding day is to be stuck in traffic on the bridge.
Parking – Bridal Party and Guests

There are a lot of pay parking spaces available at Stanley Park. The Chapel at Stanley Park also offers high end valet parking for your guests.

Decor

The décor at the Chapel is simple. As Allan Burnett said, the Chapel has décor specialists who can come in to “create anything that your heart desires.”

Venue Extra Services

Many services are available, including valet parking, a horse-drawn carriage and a Cinderella coach. I’ve noticed the Chapel’s private bride’s room is especially popular. It can accommodate a handful of bridesmaids and family members getting ready. It has an elegant décor and a fireplace to make the bride feel at home. It is a great addition to the venue.

Photography Location

It is a lovely venue to photograph. As every photographer should take note, you have a very short period of time to capture the bride arriving and leaving the altar, so timing the shoot is critical. You will need to use flash to freeze the movement of the bride and groom as they are leaving the altar or use a faster shutter speed, especially if they leave quickly. You will need to watch the white balance since a lot of sunlight comes in from the backlit glass of the altar and mixes with the warm interior incandescent lights. There is not a lot of room in the front to shoot, so the photographer will need longer and wider lenses for the location.
Videography Location

Just like for photographers, there is very little room to move around for videographers. If using a slider or video tripod, it is wise to plan where you will get best coverage. When the bride arrives, the guests will stand up. If you don’t take this into account, the beginning of your video will be blocked from people’s heads. It is wise to stay away from the front as you will get photographed by cameras too.
