Underwater Fine Art Portrait Photo + Video Vancouver

Underwater Fine Art Portrait Photo + Video

The underwater Fine Art Portrait Photo + Video was taken during the summer at Port Moody, Vancouver. My assistance diver was there to document behind the scene with a Gopro cam. The lake water was not as cold as I expected which is a good thing but we did loss a lot of sun light due to a cloudy day. Photograph in the water with the diving gear is quite different than on land, there are ONE thing you NEVER Do as all divers will tell you, NEVER hold your breathe underwater. This causes some issues while framing and focusing the model as air bubbles escaping between the camera and myself, this limited my vision. After a while I just time it and get the shot. How did I become a diver after all? I was never an adventure type believe me, sky and water are not my best friends mind you staying underwater for many minutes.

This goes back to Art, I love Art as I have seem a lot of Fine Art was taken underwater. Anyone can be an underwater photographer but taking few photos underwater and pop back up to the surface are not for me. One will able to capture few photos and get exhausted very quickly, taking few photos are not my intention but taking Great photos are interested to me! My luck came when I was at Cancun Mexico, I took on my first tropic dive. I still remember the water was so clear, I do feel like a fish inside the tank at Vancouver Aquarium. The water was so clear I can see 50 feet around me. When I headed back to Vancouver I took up diving lesson at UBC Aqua Society. After months of training, I do respect the water, teachers, your buddy and the equipments which played important part to be a certified diver.

The photo shoot experience was quite different at the lake as I was trained in the open water but in no time I was adjusted to the environment. There are always challenges photographing new locations. I did notice the bottom of the lake is full of silt, it doesn’t take much to stir up the bottom as it creates a big issue. Eventually we moved to a deeper water and having all the diving gears allowing me to stay submerged in the water below 20 feet, without the right gears I wouldn’t able to capture some of the creative Fine Art photos I have ever experience. Believe me this is only the beginning as I look forward my next underwater shoot!
